Cody Dennis Memorial Game

• DATE: Saturday, March 2, 2024 | 7:15 p.m. | Eagle Builders Centre

• Entry Fee is $2.00 per person. There will be a raffle table and 50/50 Draw. All Proceeds raised go back to Blackfalds Minor Hockey. 

• 2 players from each level are selected to play in the 1st period of the game. The 2nd and 3rd are coaches and Alumni vs. the Original team that played with Cody Dennis.

• The Dennis Family are amazing supporters of BMHA (socks, power skating, goalie camps and many other donations) and this is a fantastic fundraiser for the Cody Dennis Memorial Fund. Please come out and support this game to remember Cody and support all his hockey family and friends!!!

  On June 8, 2004, Cody was killed on his Harley at the 2A and Hwy 597 intersection, Cody was going south to Red Deer when a truck turned left in front of Cody.
   
  After the funeral, we were approached by Cody's 1998/1999 Bantam coaches, if we could arrange some kind of fundraiser for Blackfalds Minor Hockey to keep Cody's name alive.  So after talking to BMHA and talking to the coaches, it was decided to have the 98/99 Bantam Bulldogs (this was the first team to get a banner for the arena) play against the 03/04 Blackfalds Beerhounds (the last team Cody played for).  Our goal is to have all original Bulldogs from the 98/99 season, and if we need any extras we will only take ones that played minor hockey with Cody in Blackfalds or Lacombe. 
   
  The players really look forward to this game every year.  We try to keep it fun, but it can get competitive.  We are really grateful to have the Central Alberta Toy Run Association Bikers come out every year and volunteer for this event.  They help get prizes for the draw tables, work the doors, sell 50/50 tickets, and work the draw tables. 
   
  Blackfalds Minor Hockey put up the memorial case, and retired Cody's Number 1.  You can see one jersey in his case and one hangs above the ice.  In 2004, the signage on the arena was put up; we were asked if it was alright to put a goalie with #1 on the outside in Memory of Cody.  They were just going to put a regular hockey player up.
   
  Every year, at the Memorial Game we present the Cody Dennis Memorial Award. This award goes to the oldest team, so far the PeeWee or Bantam, and if there are 2 teams, we present the award to one off each team.  This award goes to the player that shows sportsmanship, team player, heart and hustle, love for the game, enthusiasm, leadership and encourager.
   
  Cody's Memorial Fund has been used for the purchase of goal equipment, Goalie clinic, Power Skate, Bantam Jerseys, and hockey socks, to name a few.  To decide what the money is going to be spent on, it has to be agreed on from Blackfalds Minor Hockey and the Dennis Family.  If one side disagrees it is not done.
